Srinagar: Three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed Thursday in Tral town of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The militants were killed when they came under an ambush laid down by army and Special Operations Group of the police near main town Tral, reports said.
Police, however, said the militants were killed in an encounter with the forces.
“A joint patrol party was fired upon by militants at Aab-Ghar Tral. The party retaliated the fire and in the ensuing encounter three unidentified militants have been killed,” a police spokesman said in a handout.
“One SLR, one carbine, one pistol and grenades and other ammunition were recovered from the spot. The identity of the slain militants was being ascertained,” the spokesman added.
Unconfirmed reports identified two of the slain militants as Shiraz Ahmad Ganai and Asif Ahmed of Yaripora, Kulgam.
