BARAMULLA: The six candidates Wednesday filed nominations from various constituencies in this north Kashmir district.
Mohammad Shafi Uri of National Conference (NC) submitted nomination papers for Uri constituency.
Javid Hasan Beigh of PDP, Gulam Hasan Rahi of NC, and independent candidate Altaf Hussain filled nomination papers for Baramulla constituency.
Advocate Mohammad Maqbool, an independent candidate, submitted nomination papers from Baramulla and Rafiabad constituencies.
Chairman Kamraz Foundation Irshad Rasool Kar filed nomination papers as an independent candidate from Sopore.
The Kashmir Development Front (KDF) candidate from Baramulla constituency, Mohammad Anwar Khan staged a rally his native village Charadari to the deputy commissioner’s office where he collected his nomination form. Later, he visited the Tehsil Chowk, Bus Stand, Narvaw valley. Number of people, mostly youngsters, participated in the rally.
Talking to reporters, Anwar, a business man, said he has “support from the young generation of town.”
“They want change this time, not only in Baramulla but in entire Kashmir. If I win the seat, I will take steps to curb increasing unemployment in Baramulla,” he said.
Meanwhile, the PDP candidate for Uri constituency Raja Ajaz Ali Khan accused the NC workers of “paying voters to vote for NC.”
“I have a video clip in which a senior worker of NC is giving Rs 15,000 to a PDP Sarpanch of an area to have him vote for NC. But the Sarpanch refused to take money,” he said addressing a public rally at Uri.
He said he will approach the election commission of India with the matter.
According to PDP, two more Sarpanchs Abdul Rouf Khan and Mushtaq Ahmad Khan of Pehlipora have joined the party.
