‘Participation in elections un-Islamic’

Srinagar: Asking people to stay away from polls,  the incarcerated ameer of Muslim Deeni Mahaz Dr Muhammad Qasim Monday said participation in elections was  “un-Islamic”.
“Participation in these secular democratic elections is unlawful according to Islamic Shariyah,” said a statement issued here by the party quoting Dr Qasim as saying .
“People should  boycott all pro-India politicians and institutions so that India cannot establish its political writ in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
Asking people to be steadfast towards the ongoing struggle, he said the Hurriyat leaders and militants “don’t have a magic wand to ward off India”.
“The Muslim population of the state has to use wisdom in the light of Islamic teachings, and be patient in this struggle,” he said. He said the pro-India political parties “are representing Indian interests in Jammu and Kashmir” thus “strengthening Indian occupation, besides providing a cover up to the illegal occupation at the international level”.
