Pampore protests PDD’s failure to repair transformers

IQBAL KIRMANI
SRINAGAR: The residents of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district Friday protested the failure of Power Development Department to repair damaged transformers during last two years.
Raising slogans against the PDD, the protestors blocked the Srinagar-Jammu highway causing a gridlock.
“Due to fault in the transformers, we have been reeling under darkness for the last two years. But nobody is listening to us,” the protesters said.
“The problem is affecting the studies of our children and almost every one of us is feeling frustrated. But the authorities are unmoved,” they added.
They said the Deputy Commissioner concerned and the PDD authorities had assured replacement of the faulty transformers by November 4, but to no avail.
“When we approached them on the said date, they asked us to wait till November 13. That date too has passed, but the authorities did nothing. We are left with no choice than to protest,” they said. “The Member Parliament Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri and MLA Zahoor Ahmad Mir too were unable to help us.”
The protest ended peacefully after an assurance from the authorities.
“They have promised to resolve the issue by Monday,” the protesters said.
