BARAMULLA: Two Sarpanchs and several activists of the National Conference (NC) in Uri Assembly constituency here Friday joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Sarpanchs, from Boniyar and Nambla villages, and the workers were welcomed into PDP by the party’s candidate Raja Ajaz Ali Khan, a retired Inspector general of Police, in a rally.
Speaking on the occasion, Khan, himself a new face in PDP, appealed the people “to vote for honour.”
“Our party will form the new government and will fight for the honour of Kashmiri people,” he said.
Khan is contesting against Congress candidate Taj Mohiudin, the incumbent local MLA, and NC’s Mohammad Shafi Uri.
Meanwhile, in Jammu veteran Congress leader and former minister Chaudhary Garu Ram and two senior National Conference leaders joined PDP.
Ram along with senior NC leaders from South Kashmir-Ghulam Qadir Tak and Peerzada Abdul Hamid joined the PDP in presence of the party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Welcoming the new entrants into the party fold, Sayeed said it is heartening that the people in sufficient numbers are becoming part of the PDP and reposing their faith in the party’s agenda which aims at bringing lasting peace, development and prosperity in the entire state.
