SRINAGAR: Questioning the role of Waqf board and Baitul malls in Kashmir, chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday said that both these socio religious wings should be made accountable.
In a statement Geelani said that it is sad that either these institutions are defunct or managed by Peoples Democratic Party or National Conference. Both these institutions have assets that include orchards and other properties which are under the control of pro India parties. These funds are not utilized for betterment and upliftment of deserved category and general public, Geelani said. “We are witness to the fact that as soon these parties come to power they took the charge of these institutions and misused the funds and their income for their own political ends,” Hurriyat (G) chairman said.
The Hurriyat (G) chairman distributed cheque of Rs 10000 and a relief kit to each of the 50 flood affected families of district Srinagar and Anantnag. The function was organised by central relief committee of the Hurriyat (G).
