Ready for alliance with BJP if it helps end Kashmiris’ miseries: Rashid

SRINAGAR: Awami Ittihad Party president and MLA Langate Engineer Abdul Rashid Thursday said he is ready to join hands with rightwing BJP if it helps “end the miseries of Kashmiris.”
“I am ready to support whoever takes Kashmiris out of the miseries they are in. I am ready to talk to even Lashkar, Jihad Council, Shiv Sena or RSS as my priority is not elections but peace for the people of Kashmir,” Rashid told reporters here.
Rashid also admitted that BJP leaders had met him to forge post-poll alliance.
“They (BJP) met me and I can meet anyone. I put my point before them vis-à-vis Kashmir and it is upto them whether they will support me on that or not. Peace in this state is also in the larger interest of the people of India, which I will work for,” he said.
Rashid while condemning the killing of two civilians at Chattergam, compared the armymen with Ajmal Kasab, the alleged Pakistani gunman who was hanged for his role in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
“Ajmal Kasab would not have been as communal as these army men are. And he (Kasab) was a non-state actor and these people are state actors, they get salaries, privileges and perks. Then what is the difference between them and Kasab?” he said.
He hoped that this time New Delhi will show its humane face and will win the hearts and minds of people by punishing the armymen involved in the killings.
Criticising Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, he said: “It’s my humble request to Omar Abdullah to please resign. His priority should have been immediate relief and rehabilitation to flood hit victims, but the entire focus is on elections now. He has miserably failed to provide any relief to the flood victims.”
Rashid claimed that ruling National Conference tried their best to defer elections so that any relief from New Delhi would be sold during the election campaign. .
“On one hand NC tried to defer elections so that centre government would announce some relief and wanted to cash on it but unfortunately, for them, it didn’t happen. And at the same time Peoples Democratic Party wanted elections to happen so that they could sell the failures of NC government and miseries of flood hit people,” he said.
Rashid also announced second list of candidates for upcoming assembly elections. Dr Bari Naik has been fielded from Shalibugh, Khalil Naik from Wachi, Mohammad Sofi Iqbal from Pampore, Parvaiz Jamal from Sonwar and Ajaz Ahmad Sofi from Handawara.
