Haj pilgrim accuses cop of theft

Baramulla: A Haj pilgrim from this north Kashmir district Thursday alleged that before boarding the flight to Saudi Arabia he had been duped by a policeman.
Abdul Khaliq Sofi of Chakla Baramulla said that on September 20 he along with his wife reached Srinagar airport where a policeman posted in checking counter helped them to wear the Ahram dress, exchanged rupee for Saudi Riyal and also showed them how to board the flight. “But when we boarded the plane we were shocked to see our pockets bereft of any money. I had one lakh sixty thousand rupees in my pocket before boarding the flight,” said Khaliq.
On reaching the Jeddah airport he was told to contact Saudi embassy. “After a lot of questioning the Saudi embassy handed us 3500 Riyal. Some other people also helped us during out pilgrimage.”
On November 04 after completing their pilgrimage they filed a written complaint against the policeman in Humhama police station Srinagar.
An official of the Humhama police station requesting not to be named said, “Khaliq has submitted application against a policeman. We have register his complaint and investigation is on,” adding, “We are collecting CCTV footage from airport authorities.”
