FIR against NHPC over drowning of children

Baramulla: Police Friday filed FIR against the National Hydel Power Corporation(NHPC) after its alleged negligence led to the drowning of two children here.
Station House Officer, Uri Abdul Latif said an FIR 61/2014 under section 304 RPC against the NHPC has been lodged.
Latif said, “We found a jacket of one child in the river a kilometre away from the accident spot but bodies are yet to be retrieved.”
He said, “Many teams of police have been deployed at various river banks. Police along with navy are jointly searching for the bodies.”
On Thursday Jalal Ahmad Mangrial, 12, son of Abdul Ahad Mangrial and Abdul Wahab Mangrial, 13, son Bashir Ahmad Mangrial of Duwaran village of Uri were playing along the banks of river Jhelum when the authorities of NHPC opened the project gates in the river, which increased the flow of water resulting in the drowning of duo.
People of the area staged protests against the NHPC’s callous attitude.
