2 children drown in Jhelum, locals blame NHPC

Baramulla: Two children were drowned in river Jhelum Thursday when authorities of National Hydel Power Corporation opened the project gates in the river causing increase in the water level that resulted in drowning incident, sources said.
Sources said, “Jalal Ahmad Mangrial, 12, son of Abdul Ahad Mangrial and Abdul Wahab Mangrial, 13, son Bashir Ahmad Mangrial of Duwaran village of Uri were playing at the banks of river Jhelum when the authorities of NHPC opened the project gates in the river, which increased the flow of water resulting in the drowning of two children.”
The said other people tried to save them but failed.
Station House Officer Uri, Abdul Latif said, “We have pressed our men and machinery to fish out the bodies. So far we are not able to locate them.”
He said the police is also investigating the incident.
