Tangmarg: Gonipora-Chanpora accuse Bongam village of destroying their land

Baramulla: The villagers of Gonipora-Chanpora on Sunday accused people from Bongam village of forcibly destroying their fields, orchards and poplar trees while constructing a road through the area.
The villagers alleged that the people of Bongam near Kunzar in Tangmarg destroyed hundred kanals of land causing damage to orchards, poplar, walnuts besides destroying plantations.
“On Sunday night we were asleep when we heard the sound of bulldozers. Upon reaching our land we saw villagers of Bongam rampaging the agricultural fields alongside the footway reaching from Bongam to Kunzar via Chanpora,” said residents of the twin villages of Gonipora-Chanpora.
They said, “In the name of a so-called road making which has no sanction from government or from the landlords, Bongam villagers pillaged our land. We called police but no one reached to the spot.”
Bongam village is situated on the left side of Srinagar-Gulmarg road. The village has well-established road connectivity from Kunzar township via Gonipora-Kechmatipora with a good transport service.
Tehsildar Karhama, Bashir ul Haq said, “We have dispatched revenue and police officials to the area. They will file their report tomorrow. If anyone is found involved in forcibly converting the land into road we will take strict action against him.”
