Year on, Bandi villagers await govt relief

Baramulla: People of Bandi village  of border town Uri here Saturday alleged that government is yet to provide them any relief for their houses damaged due to landslides and rains during the last year
“At least dozen houses were completely damaged due to continuous rains and landslides in our village last year. Later dozens of government teams headed by Deputy Commissioner (DC), Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and tehsildar reached the area and assured us that government will help every family and will provide us safer places. But since then we are waiting,” Shah Wali Pathan one of the victims said.
He said, “I along with my family were living in a tin shed when last month’s flash flood once again washed our makeshift house.”
Abdul Majeed, another victim said, “We don’t understand what district administration is doing? We are waiting for government’s relief from the past one year.”
When contacted SDM Uri Dr Abdul Aziz said, “Last year we constructed a bund with the help of Beacon department to stop the landslides near the village. As far as my report is considered no house was properly damaged. If, however, this year they have any property damage the tehsildar of the area will check and will send his report to us.”
