Baramulla: Flood affected people in many areas of Baramulla have alleged that the Department of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) is distributing ration to non flood areas of the district.
Reports said that scores of families in Sharcolony, Haritar, Tarzoo, Tulbal Sopore, Bela Boniyar, and many in Wagoora and Sheeri areas of Baramulla who were affected in last month’s flash floods and living in tents or in government or private buildings are without food and other essential commodities.
Village sarpanch Tarzoo, Fayaz Ahmad said, “Government announced free ration will be distributed from the month of October among the effected areas but the food department started distributing ration among those who were not effected by the floods.”
He said the people who are living out of their homes are without ration. “Officials are giving preference towards those areas who only lost their crops or fruits,” he said.
“We urged CAPD officials to give us ration on payment basis but unfortunately they don’t pay any heed,” Fayaz said.
District officer CAPD Baramulla Dr Sheeba said, “We started ration distribution as per the government order, and as per the list furnished by the revenue department.”
She said, “It is the fault of revenue department that they have not given us the list of flood affected areas. The moment they give us we will distribute ration.”
