Delay in relief distribution angers Sonawari residents

SRINAGAR: Traffic at Hajin-Srinagar road came to standstill after residents of Markundal, Sonawari Friday protested against the delay in distribution of relief by government.
Protestors said, “We have been badly hit by the recent floods. Many of our houses have collapsed while most of the houses are not safe for residence but the delay in distribution of relief by government is only increasing our woes.”
“Winters are coming and it will be difficult for us to remain in those houses which are still shaky,” they said.
“If timely action is not taken by the government people have no place to live in,” they said.
Protestors also raised issues about the ration distribution in the area. “We do not want any free ration. We are ready to buy it but where is the allotted rice,” asked protestors.
They demanded that government should speed up the disbursement of money among the flood-affected people.
Tehsildar Sonawari, Maheen Kakroo said, “We have distributed some cheques between families but some of them have not received due to technical faults which will be resolved within days.”
