Srinagar: Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC), H C Herath, preferred not to attend a joint press conference here Saturday which was to be addressed by Chief Engineers of all main public departments, apparently to avoid questions related to his department’s failure to tackle with the recent floods and its aftermath.
According to the press invitation circulated by the Information Department, Chief Engineers of PHE, R&B, Irrigation and Flood Control, UEED, and Director CA&PD were scheduled to address a joint press conference on October 4 at 1.00 pm at the Banquet Hall.
But all the heads of the departments barring Chief Engineer, I&FC, attended the press conference to give briefing about the magnitude of damage to infrastructure due to floods pertaining to their respective departments and restoration of essential services in the affected areas.
Chief Engineer, PHE, Mohammad Muzaffar Lanker, who was moderating the press conference, said he did not know the reasons why Herath chose to skip the venue.
“I was told that he will also join. But why he did not he join, I don’t know,” said Lanker.
