Srinagar: In times of flood there is some good news: SKIMS Medical College JVC Bemina’s department of Ophthalmology conducted the first successful corneal transplant surgery, an official of the Institute said Monday.
A spokesperson of the Institute said, “A team of experts from SKIMS Medical College Bemina comprising Dr. Riyaz Untoo, Dr. Sheikh Sajjad, Dr. Imtiyaz Ahmad, Dr. Nusrat Shaheen and experts associated with ‘Dera Sacha Sauda’, Haryana, Dr. Aditya Insaan successfully operated two patients for the said procedure.”
Director SKIMS Prof Showkat Ali Zargar congratulated the whole team for successfully conducting the first corneal transplant surgery in the state.
“This is a big achievement and SKIMS will conduct such surgeries on regular basis which will benefit the blind patients in need of corneal transplantation,” said Zargar.
He said the corneas were airlifted from Haryana adding, “SKIMS is making MoU with the Dera Sacha Sauda , Haryana for future course.”
