Baramulla: Over a hundred school buildings were damaged, dozen among them completely, in the flash floods triggered by heavy rains in this north Kashmir district a fortnight ago, officials said Friday.
“At least 122 school buildings were damaged due to floods caused by rainfall since September 6. A dozen buildings were completely damaged,” Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla, Syed Abdur Rouf, told Kashmir Reader Friday.
Divulging further details, he said, 3 school buildings were completely damaged in Boniyar, two each in Fatehgarh and Wagoora, and one each in Chandanwari, Chandusa, Nihalpora, and Kunzer areas of the district. He said that the department has hired private buildings in the areas where the school buildings were damaged in the floods.
“The educational institutions in almost every area have reopened. The teachers have also resumed their duties. All the ZEO’s are monitoring the developments in their respective areas and keeping is updated,” Rouf said.
He said that the salary of some teachers posted in Pattan, was stopped after officials of the department found them absent from duties.
