Baramulla: Three army personnel, including a Major, were killed and four others injured Tuesday when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in the neighbouring Kupwara district.
An army vehicle (ALS-00B127384E) carrying soldiers from 41 Rashtriya Rifles was returning to Sarkoli from Kalaroos area of the frontier district after carrying out a search operation, when it skidded off the road near Check Mode before plunging into a deep gorge during the wee hours Tuesday, officials told Kashmir Reader.
Seven soldiers, including an officer, were injured in the accident. The injured were removed to the army’s Drugmulla hospital for treatment. However, three of the soldiers succumbed to their injuries, the officials said.
“Three army men, including an officer, were killed in the accident. Several soldiers were also injured,” Block Medical Officer (BMO) Drugmulla, Dr Masrat Ahmad, told Kashmir Reader.
The deceased officer has been identified as Major Inderjeet Singh.
The soldiers were returning from Kalaroos where an anti-militancy operation is going on for the last nine days. Five militants and three soldiers have been killed in the operation which was launched on August 24.
This is the second accident in the district involving uniformed men. Last week, seven Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel were injured after their vehicle met with an accident near a forest area in Lolab.
