SRINAGAR: Police Monday detained several Anganwadi workers as they held a protest demonstration against the failure of government to fulfill their demand of regularization and salary hike .
Under the banner of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, the protestors demanded “gratuity, the formulation of a pension scheme, immediate enhancement of their remuneration and withdrawal of the plan to privatize Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).”
Talking to Kashmir Reader, Shameema Akhtar, Member of the association said, “Government should increase our honorarium to Rs 5,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively.”
Shameema said “Anganwadi workers will not remain silent while injustice is perpetrated against them.”
Linking their remuneration with consumer price index, she demanded 10 per cent annual increment, release of training grants in favor of the workers and helpers without any delay and TA, DA for attending different meetings in connection with Pulse Polio, Aids Awareness and other related programmes.
The workers said that Director Social Welfare as well as the concerned Minister but their pleas fell on deaf ears. “We are left with no option but to come on roads to protest against injustice done to us.”
