SRINAGAR: Daily wagers working under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Act (MGNREGA) held a protest here Monday against what they called the “ failure of government to regularize them.”
The protest was held under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir MGNREGA Association.
Talking to Kashmir Reader, President of the association, Jan Muhammad, demanded that hundreds of daily wagers, who have completed their training and are currently working on different posts should be regularized.
“Government should give first preference to the people who are working in the departments since last seven years on meager salaries”
“It would be injustice with the working employees if government starts recruiting people from outside,” Jan said.
Vice President of the association, Nazir-ud-din said, “The govermment does not need look for recruit in the departments as the daily wagers who have worked till date know their work well.”
As the protesters tried to march from the Press Enclave, the police swung into action and detained several of them.
