ANANTNAG: People had to face severe inconvenience in this south Kashmir district Monday as most of the Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) of Jammu and Kashmir Bank remained out of order throughout the day.
In all the major and small towships of the district, people had to face tough time as none of the ATMs was functioning. Out of nearly two dozen ATMs in Anantnag town only one ATM at General Bus Stand was working. Amid scorching heat people were seen waiting in long queues outside two ATMs of HDFC and State Bank of India (SBI) on Khanabal-Pahalgam road. Many people who could not afford to wait in queues for long due to the scorching heat had to return without withdrawing the money.
“I visited almost all the ATMs of Jammu and Kashmir Bank since 11 am, but all of them were out of order. Then I visited the HDFC ATM on the KP road, but on seeing long queues of people there I decided to return without doing transaction,” Bilal Ahmad told Kashmir Reader.
A former schoolteacher, Ghulam Nabi said, “At least four ATMs I approached since 10 am were not working. Now I am tired enough to visit another. It is irony that on the eve of Eid J and K Bank officials failed to keep their ATMs in order.”
Even if some ATMs were functioning they were either short of money or the transactions were time consuming.
“I did the transaction at ATM near Naibasti but it took me nearly 20 minutes to withdraw the money. During transaction the machine got hanged at least twice. There was strict warning written on the machine not use buttons for transaction,” said a customer, Rayees Ahmad.
