SRINAGAR: Markets and shoppers have started to pick up as the days of Eid-ul-Fitr near. Traders and salesmen at different markets, shops, malls and complexes around Srinagar said Eid shopping is reaching its crescendo.
“This year the sales of Eid items including clothes have been excellent. Preparations for Eid-ul-Fitr pick up full steam only after the Shab-e-Qadr. Therefore we are expecting more sales in the coming days,” said Arif Hameed, who runs a cloth showroom at Jawahar Nagar.
Besides, bakery shops, confectioneries, toyshops and cosmetic shops too witnessed a heavy rush of customers as Kashmiris start preparing for the Eid.
City markets especially, Nowhatta, Amira Kadal, Gojwara, Goni Khan and Hazratbal were seen flooded by people on Friday.
“Eid is a festival of fervour especially Eid-ul-Fitr which is always awaited after a long month of Ramadan. Without shopping Eid is incomplete. I bought all the cloths and footwear for me and my family yesterday only. Now I am buying toys and gifts for my daughter and other kids in the family,” said Zainab, an Eid shopper.
Goni Khan market appeared the busiest from early Friday morning upto late evening. Large number of women especially young girls were seen swarming cosmetic shops making a heyday for shopkeepers around.
As per Sameer, a local cosmetic shopkeeper, Eid is the best time to make the highest sales round the year. “Every year, on the arrival of Eid, I have to keep additional sales girl at my shop owing to the rush of the customers. With Eid, Alhamdulil’lah, the business goes really good,” said Sameer adding, “To be on a safer side, I even ordered additional amount of every other cosmetic brand so that nothing falls short ahead of Eid.”
