Cop shot at, dies

Srinagar: A policeman died Friday after he was shot at by suspected militants in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Constable Altaf Ahmad was shot at from close range by the assailants at Goriwan Chowk in Bijbehara town, police officials said.
The cop, a resident of Ganderpora area of Eidgah in downtown Srinagar, was hit in the chest and abdomen was referred to the SKIMS here, where he succumbed to his injuries, they said.
Altaf had joined the police in 2011.
Soon after the attack, SOG, police, army and CRPF cordoned the whole area and launched searches to nab the attackers.
No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
