SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has been awarded with India International Travel Mart (IITM) award for enhancing tourist activity in Kashmir.
IITM has also appreciated the organizers of IITM for their efforts to focus on Kashmir Tourism in particular and for recognizing the services of various organizations rendered to help enhance tourist activity of Jammu and Kashmir.
A statement issued here by the oldest business body of the Valley said president KCCI, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad who was invited at ‘India International Travel Mart’ held at Bangalore by Sphere Travelmeadia and Exhibition Pvt. Ltd. to receive the award presented to KCCI in acknowledgement of its services rendered to Kashmir Tourism over the years.
It said at the IITM Bangalore Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad on the sidelines said that the Tourism Industry of Kashmir is, as a matter of fact one of the indispensable link between our handicrafts industry and its markets within and outside the country and it has therefore, been one of the main priorities for which KCCI works over time. The KCCI is making all efforts to help creating of more and modern facilities for tourists of diverse cultures visiting Kashmir every year in tens of thousands.
“Our State Government is also quite conscious about the need for creating infrastructure to bear fast growing tourist influx,” the statement said.
KCCI is also contemplating to hold a seminar on tourism in the 3rd week of August 2014 where all including Hoteliers, Tour and Travel operators, House Boat Associations and other stakeholders will be invited to participate in order to focus on the needs and requirements, achievements, as also on our rights and responsibilities towards this industry.
The President hopes that the proposed seminar shall have a positive effect on boosting the tourist activity in the state, it said.
