Srinagar: A youth died on Monday after he slipped into a gorge while being chased by a bear in the mountainous area of Uri in this north Kashmir district.
25-year-old Manzoor Ahmad Awan, son of Abdul Rehman of Pringal village of Uri was grazing his cattle in the nearby forest area when a bear appeared there and attacked him, police said. “While trying to save himself from the bear, Manzoor lost control and slipped from a mountain. He died on the spot,” a police official told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the locals discovered the body of youth lying in a gorge and immediately informed the police.
Wildlife Warden, north Kashmir Mohammad Sadiq tod Kashmir Reader that the youth apparently died in an accident.
“We’re not sure if the slain youth had a contact with a bear. That’s a matter of investigation,” he added.
Wildlife officials caught a female bear along with two of her cubs from Khoshipora village of Rafiabad here. The bear, officials said, was roaming in the village from several days triggering panic among the locals.
Meanwhile, a physically challenged man was found dead on Monday in a gorge in Uri area of this north Kashmir district.
Jalal-ud-din Sood, 65 of Darakunjan village of Boniyar, Uri was found dead in a nallah near his village by the locals on Monday afternoon, officials said. Hours before his death, Sood was spotted by locals at a medical camp that was organized by the department of health today.
Police handed over the body of the slain man to his family after completion of legal formalities. Police has started investigations in this regard, officials said.
