Tangmarg: Teachers hit streets over pending salaries

Baramulla: Hundreds of Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers, including those regularised on Monday staged protests against the education department for allegedly holding their salaries from last five months.
Hundreds of RrT and ReT teachers this morning took to streets and staged demonstrations against the education department, reports said Monday. Chanting slogans, the protesters alleged that the department has not released their salary for the last five months putting them to hardships. The protesters also blocked traffic on the Srinagar-Gulmarg highway for sometime demanding immediate release of their salary.
“We’re facing problems on multiple fronts. Many of us have obtained bank loans. And the banks are threatening to seize our property in case we fail to liquidate our loans as soon as possible,” the protesters said.
The protesters also accused the bank officials of harassing the teachers, who have obtained loans.
“Even one of our teachers received a phone call from the bank when he was attending his wife at the maternity hospital. We’re being pushed to the wall,” Irshad Ahmad, President RRT Forum Tangmarg said.
He said that all schools will be locked down in case the salary of the teachers is not released before Eid.
