Srinagar: Violent protests erupted in Khwaja Bazar area of downtown Srinagar when a group of youth pelted stones on the CRPF and the JK Police preparing to fortify the Martyrs’ Graveyard ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit on Sunday morning.
According to reports, immediately after finishing ‘Taraveeh’ (late night prayers) some youth came on to the streets and raised anti-government and pro-freedom slogans and pelted stones on the CRPF and the Police who were advancing towards the Martyrs’ Graveyard. Police fired teargas to disperse the protesters.
Protests were said to be going on in the nearby area of Nowhatta after late night prayers at the Jamia Masjid when reports last came in. Intermittent clashes were on till late at night.
