Srinagar: At least 18 persons, including some schoolchildren and women, were injured Wednesday after bitten by canines in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Reports said stray dogs attacked people in several localities of Ganderbal town including Dhudarhama Chowk, Tawheed Chowk, Saloora and Qamaria Chowk.
Among the injured, four critically wounded were rushed to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar where they are being treated.
Some of the injured were identified as Ali Muhammad, Zahoor Ahmad, Fancy, Adil, Zahid Altaf, Abid, Muhammad Sadiq, Tawseef, Ashiq, Zahid and Saleema.
Announcements were made on mosque loudspeakers asking the people not to allow their children to come out of their homes, reports said.
“Despite being chased with stones, the stray dogs continued their attacks,” reports quoted a local resident as saying. The residents said that authorities bring dogs from Srinagar and drop them in Ganderbal town.
