Ex-CJ Mufti Baha-ud-din passes away

Srinagar: Former Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Mufti Baha-ud-din Farooqi, passed away on Saturday. He was 87.
An eminent jurist and legal authority, Justice Baha-ud-din breathed his last on Saturday morning at his Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar residence. Justice Farooqi served as the 12th Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir from March 7, 1983 to August 23, 1983.
The retired Justice highlighted human rights abuses in early 90s and produced a couple of reports as well. He was one of the first persons to state that the Press Council of India (PCI) probe into Kunan Poshpora rapes did not visit the affected villages.
Hundreds of people including prominent social and religious personalities participated in the Nimaz-e-Jinaza (funeral prayers) which was held at Khanqah-e-Moula, his hometown.
Among those included a delegation of Kashmir High Court Bar Association comprising of advocates Mian Qayoom, Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, Mufti Mehraj-ud-din and Reyaz Jan.
