SRINAGAR: The Initiative for Competition Promotion in J&K (ICPJK) Sunday felicitated the newly selected officers from Jammu and Kashmir who qualified the in UPSC Civil Services examination 2014 at a function here.
The function, attended by hundreds of aspiring young students, was held at Amar Singh College.
As many as 10 candidates made it to IAS, IPS, IFS and other allied services from the state this year. Among them Abid Sadiq Bhat, Owais Ahmad and Shakeel Ahmad were felicitated.
In his welcome address, Dr Shah Faisal, who is member of ICP congratulated the candidates who have qualified the IAS this year. He said that it is matter of satisfaction that more and more candidates are getting selected for the prestigious examination.
Referring to IGP Kashmir, A.G Mir, Faisal said the former has been the driving force and chief mentor of many of the Civil Services passouts. He said that the interaction like this help the aspirants to get motivated for passing the exams.
Mir, who is the founder trustee of ICPJK interacted with the aspiring students. He exhorted the young aspirants to work hard and follow the footsteps of their local role models who have qualified this exam due to sheer hard work and dedication. Encouraging the aspiring students, he said that the sole aim of creating the ICP is to offer a direction and guidance to the students directly from the civil services qualifiers who share their experiences which help a lot in preparing for this competitive exams.
Later, an interactive session where aspiring candidates asked questions related to civil service exam from the newly qualified officers was also held. Mir alongwith Shah Faisal presented gifts to the selected officers.
Abid Sadiq Bhat, a resident of Srinagar, is the highest-ranked qualifier from the state, standing at 27th. Bhat had qualified the UPSC examination last year too and was allotted the Indian Revenue Service. The other successful candidates from the Valley are Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Raja Yaqoob and Shakeel Maqbool Yatoo while Abhishek Mahajan, Afaq Ahmad Giri, Owais Ahmad Rana, Qamar-uz-Zaman Choudhary, Vikrant Bhushan and Mehtab Ahmed Jagal were other successful candidates from Jammu region of the state.
