BARAMULLA: Heavy rains coupled with hailstorm destroyed agricultural and horticultural crops in many villages in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.
Eye witnesses told Kashmir Reader that the rains, hailstorm and fast wind started about 5.45 pm on Wednesday sweeping across Rafiabad, Baramulla, Pattan, Sopore, Hygam, Tangmarg, Handwara and other areas of north Kashmir.
The hailstorm damage different kinds of crops and vegetables where as fast rains and wind damage the apple, pears fruit in the orchards, the farmers and fruit growers said.
The transporters said the Baramulla-Kupwara, and Srinagar-Muzafarabad highways also remained blocked after poplar trees fell on roads at many places.
The president fruit growers’ association fruit mandi Sopore Fayaz Ahmad Malik said that it is not first time when hailstorm and winds have damage the fruits and crops this year, earlier also there has been damge by heavy rains.
