Sopore youth’s killing evokes widespread condemnation

Srinagar: Various political parties Monday condemned the killing of Sopore youth, Arshid Ahmad Shah, in forces firing.
Ruling National Conference spokesman, Junaid Azim Mattu said, “Party condemns this unfortunate incident in unequivocal terms and demands that the government initiate an immediate investigation to ascertain the facts.”
Mattu further said that the injured persons be given all possible medical and financial assistance. “Ex-gratia relief be extended to the family of the deceased without any delay,” said the spokesman.
Peoples Democratic Party, president, Mehbooba Mufti while condemning the killing of Sopore youth in the firing by troops said, “The culprits must be identified without any delay and tried for their unwarranted action.”
She said, “Firing was an unwarranted action against the protesters who had assembled to give vent to their feelings.” PDP president expressed solidarity with the bereaved family of Shah and demanded special medical treatment for the four injured youth.
National Front chairman, Nayeem Khan while expressing anguish on the firing incident said, “Killing of pro-freedom youth in Kashmir is unacceptable. Showering bullets on protesters has been the practice of rulers.”
Jama’at-e-Islami has demanded immediate arrest of the personnel involved in the act. Jama’at spokesman, Advocate Zahid Ali said, “The use of unbridled power upon peaceful protesters is a blatant violation of human rights which amounts to genocide.” He urged international human rights bodies to take note and take effective steps to stop such crimes.
