Protest against ‘negligence’ at Children’s Hospital

SRINAGAR: The attendants of some ailing children admitted at Children’s Hospital here Monday staged a protest against the hospital authorities, accusing the latter of being responsible for death of four children in past 48 hours.
The protesters, raising slogans against the hospital administration and the government, blocked the main road near Sonwar in the forenoon. The protests affected the traffic movement in the area until police dispersed the protesters.
The protesters alleged that four infants had died at the hospital in past 48 hours due to negligence of the doctors and the hospital administration.
The authorities at the hospital, however, refute the allegations, saying that the protest started after the guards forced out the access attendants staying in the premises.
“Early morning, the guards were asked to clean the wards and force out the attendants who were staying in the hospital unnecessarily. They (attendants) got enraged and started protesting and leveling accusations,” Deputy Medical Superintendent at the hospital Dr Salim Khan told Kashmir Reader.
“Only three infants have died at the hospital in past 48 hours. One of them was brought dead and another was suffering from sepsis shock, and third was having congenital heart disease. We tried our best to save them,” he said.
