Hurriyats call for shutdown

Srinagar: Both factions of Hurriyat Conference have called for a shutdown across the Valley on Tuesday against the killing of a youth by government forces in Sopore town.
A Hurriyat (G) spokesman urged the people to observe a shutdown against the youth’s killing. The amalgam had earlier called a shutdown in Baramulla district only against the killing. “The call has now been extended to entire Kashmir owing to people’s request,” the spokesman said.
Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while calling for a complete shutdown on Tuesday against the “gruesome murder” of the youth in Sopore, said, “It seems that the security forces have been emboldened by the recent statements made by political leadership and the top army commanders in the state.”
“It is unfortunate that rather than showing restrain, the police, army and paramilitary forces have gone for a killing spree. World human rights organization must take cognizance of these incidents and use their good offices to stop the rights abuse in Kashmir,” Mirwaiz said in a statement.
