Sopore youth injured in Friday attack succumbs

BARAMULLA: Shabir Ahmad Naikoo, who received injuries during an attack by gunmen on Congress activist Khazir Mohammad Naiko’s house on Friday last, succumbed to injuries on Sunday.
Shabir, son of Mohammad Maqbool Naiko, had received three bullets when gunmen fired upon the house of his uncle Khazir. He was admitted in the SKIMS while Khazir’s son Nazir Ahmad was killed on the spot during the attack.
“The doctors removed Shabir’s damaged kidney, but he succumbed in the wee hours Sunday,” officials told Kashmir Reader. Police handed over the body to the family and has registered a case.
Shabir was a dentist running his clinic at Singhpora, Pattan.
The body was later laid to rest in the graveyard at Seelo, Sopore, with hundreds of people participating in his last rites.
Meanwhile, official sources told Kashmir Reader that one Meraj-u-Din of Mundji, Sopore, who was arrested by the police, has confessed his involvement in the attack.
“Meraj and his other relatives are in police custody for investigations,” they said. “It is clear that there was a property dispute between the two families. Meraj has accepted that he was approached by a local militant Javid Ahmad Mattoo, who later deputed a team of gunmen for attacking the Naikoos house.”
