Qazigund: Considered as the gateway of Kashmir, Qazigund is facing number of problems. Business community and locals say that Municipal Committee Qazigund has failed to address their problems.
Locals told Kashmir Reader that space marked for footpaths has been occupied by the sumo drivers and shopkeepers. R&B erected streetlights but after a fortnight they became defunct, locals allege.
Officials in MCQ said that they were given the charge of ‘switching them on and off only’.
Executive officer MCQ, Gowhar Ali, said one has to see which department is responsible for streetlights. “It is R&B that maintains main roads and streetlights also falls in their domain. We are responsible for maintaining lanes, by-lanes and the inner drainage system,” said Ali.
Executive Engineer Division Qazigund, Nisar Ahmed said, “We are looking into the matter and have asked DC Office Anantnag to intervene in the issue.”
When asked why footpaths have not being constructed he said: “It comes in the beautification plan. I have joined just few days back and I am myself ascertaining the facts. I will let you know accordingly.”
