SRINAGAR: To promote the tourism industry in Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir tourism department on Saturday launches its nine-day Summer Tourism festival in the valley.
During the festival, different tourist related activities will be carried out at various tourism spots with a focus to highlight adventure, golf, river and eco-tourism, besides art and culture of the Valley.
Events like paragliding at Asthanmarg Dara, rock climbing at Nowgam, Kids festival at Zaberwan Park, Kashmiri idol at SKICC are also main parts of the festival.
Besides recreational facilities, various government departments including handicrafts and handloom departments have set up stalls showcasing handicrafts, handloom products, as well as the art and culture of the Valley at Kashmir Haat, Srinagar.
The visitors can taste the traditional Kashmiri cuisine, wazwan with daily cultural programmes being presented by famous artists at Kashmir Haat and other tourist spots.
The festival was inaugurated by the Tourism Minister, Ghulam Ahmad Mir who on the occasion said the aim of the festival is to bring back the tourism sector on the “revival path”.
“Due to improvement in political situation, Kashmir has experienced a huge tourist influx during last few years and more tourists are expected to visit valley this year,” Mir said.
He said that the tourists visiting Kashmir during the festival will be able to experience the local culture and traditions.
On the first day of the festival, the tourist areas particularly boulevards wear a festive look, as house boats, shikara ghats and hotels were illuminated with decorative lights.
