SRINAGAR: In a bid to introduce more adventure-related activities in the Valley, the Adventure Tour Operators Association of Kashmir (ATOAK) in collaboration with Department of Tourism is soon launching whitewater rafting in Srinagar.
A new patch has been identified for whitewater rafting on the Sindh river on the outskirts of Srinagar. President ATOAK, Rauf Tramboo, along with a technical team from the Department of Tourism recently went to explore the river from Wussan to Wayil bridge. The stretch which flows around 8 kms was found feasible for rafting.
“We identified a new spot feasible for whitewater rafting on the Sindh river,” Tramboo told Kashmir Reader.
All the necessary equipments for the launch of rafting have already been procured. The event is likely to be inaugurated on June 24.
“We are waiting for a formal permission from Department of Tourism. On June 24, we will inaugurate this activity, insha-Allah,” Tramboo said.
“The advantage is that the new rafting point is nearer to Srinagar. It is only half an hour drive away from the summer capital,” Tamboo said, adding that the activity will lure more tourists to the valley.
“The best part is that those who want to enjoy rafting can do it without taking long drives to other places like Pahalgam and Sonamarg for rafting. I am glad that my dream came true and I was successful in bringing in rafting at a new destination,” said Tramboo.
Adventure activities such as zip line, paragliding, rock climbing camps, mountain biking, parasailing on water have already been introduced in the Valley by the Department of Tourism.
