Congress activist’s son shot dead in Sopore

Baramulla: Unidentified gunmen Friday night shot dead son of a Congress activist in Sopore town of this north Kashmir district.
Sources said a group of three masked gunmen entered the house of Congress activist Khazir Mohammad Naikoo in Seelu area of Sopore and asked about his whereabouts from the family members. The gunmen left the house after the family told them that Naikoo was present in the house.
“However, in the meantime, Naikoo’s son Nazir Ahmad reached his house. After sometime, Nazir and the gunmen had a heated argument. The gunmen opened volley of gunfire upon him. He was hit by two bullets in the head, killing him instantly, while his cousin Shabir suffered gunshot injuries,” the sources said.
Shabir was removed to the sub-district hospital Sopore for treatment. However, the doctors referred him to SKIMS Srinagar.Soon after the shootout, Special Operations Group (SOG) of police and army reached the spot and carried out search operation to nab the assailants. The search operation continued for some time. However, no one was arrested.
