Justice Mansoor Mir appointed CJ of HP

Srinagar: Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir has been appointed as Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court.
According to a notification issued Monday by the Ministry of Law and Justice, the President Pranab Mukherjee, appointed Justice Mir in exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.
Mir, 59, a native of Rajpora village in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, will be sworn-in as the Chief Justice on June 18 at 5 pm.
Born on April 25, 1955 Mir took oath as acting Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court on November 26 last year after his transfer from Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
After completing schooling from Rajpora, Justice Mir did BA from Amar Singh College Srinagar in 1976 and later LLB from Kashmir University in 1978. He joined the Bar in the same year and practiced in almost all branches of the law–Civil, Criminal, Revenue etc. at District Court Pulwama till May 26 1993.
With the distinction of being topper in Higher Judicial Services Examination (J&K in 1992), Justice Mir was appointed and posted as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kupwara on May 27, 1993 and made functional the Court at District Kupwara.
Upon his transfer in July 1995, he remained posted as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Anantnag for three years.
In 1998, he was transferred as Presiding Officer, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal & Transport Appellate Authority Srinagar and remained posted as such for two years.
Justice Mir was transferred in 2000 and remained posted as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Budgam till May 2002. Justice Mir has the distinction of being the first Judicial Officer to be posted as Presiding Officer, Designated Court of TADA/Special Judge POTA for Kashmir Division in May 2002.
He was transferred and remained posted as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar from September 2004, till his elevation as Additional Judge of the J&K High Court.
Appointed as Additional Judge of the J&K High Court on January 31 2005, Justice Mir was subsequently appointed as permanent Judge of the High Court on July 7, 2007.
