SRINAGAR: The second weeklong workshop on Congenital Cardiac Surgery organised by department of Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) at SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in collaboration with UK’s Healing Little Hearts organisation started on Monday.
“It is the second workshop of its kind being conducted by the UK-based organisation in collaboration with the CVTS department. The first workshop was conducted from March 23- 29 in which seven patients were operated upon by the team of experts from Alder Hay’s Hospital Liverpool UK, Ormond Street Hospital for Children, and Glenfield Hospital Leicester UK. They were supported by experts from SKIMS,” SKIMS director Dr Showkat Zargar said in a press conference.
Healing Little Hearts is a registered charity organisation that works under the patronage of Dr Sanjiv Nichani. It sends teams of specialists to various countries for performing lifesaving heart operations on babies and children.
Its team of experts participating in the workshop include Consultant Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Dr Nichani, Consultant Pediatric Cardiology Dr Demetris Taliotis, Consultant Cardiac Intensive Care Dr Aparna U Hoskote, Consultant Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia Dr Lorenzo ScGrazioli, Consultant Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr Attilio A Lotto.
Lauding efforts of the local doctors, Dr Nichani said “we have pledged to come to Kashmir in future also and we look forward to working with the local team of doctors.”
“The hospital needs more equipments like special breathing machines. Further investment is needed in improving the hospital’s physical infrastructure,” he added.
Head of the CVTS department Dr G N Lone said the programme would benefit the faculty and the support staff.
“By virtue of this programme, our department will get an opportunity to enhance its infrastructure as well as manpower,” he added.
