Srinagar: Police on Saturday re-arrested senior Hurriyat Conference (G) leader and Muslim league chairman, Masrat Alam Bhat, who was released Saturday by a senior government official after serving detention for four years.
Alam was released on Saturday afternoon in an open court of Tehsildar Srinagar, reports said. From the court, Alam went to his house in Zaindar Mohalla locality of Habba Kadal only to be held by a police team around 2:45 p m. He was taken to the Shaheed Gunj Police station.
“The family was rejoicing the reunion after four years when a police contingent appeared in the locality and arrested him. There were many friends, relatives and neighbours of Alam when the police team came to arrest him,” Alam’s uncle Farooq Ahmad, told Kashmir Reader.
Alam was bundled into an armoured vehicle and shifted to the nearby Shaheed Gunj police station. The family has apprehensions that the police might try to slap fresh charges against Alam.
Senior police officials are tight-lipped over the arrest of the Muslim League leader.
