Qazigund Emergency Hospital sans facilities, staff

ANANTNAG:The Emergency Hospital, Qazigund that was made to cater to highway accidents lacks not only essential facilities like CT Scan but is also short of medicos.
According to the local residents the hospital was constructed with the aim to provide immediate treatment to the emergency cases on highway but even the patients with minor injuries are being referred to other hospitals. “My father received injury in his finger but to my surprise the doctors after giving him first aid referred him to District Hospital, Anantnag,” said a local resident, Farooq Ahmad.
The residents allege lobbyism and monopoly of few doctors posted in the hospital has furthered the mess.
“Recently my niece was admitted in the hospital for appendicitis but the doctors refused to conduct her USG. At around 4 pm we had to take her to a private hospital where she was operated upon immediately,” said another local resident, Rafiq Sarwar.
Locals also allege that despite being an emergency hospital only one doctor is on night duty here.
Another resident, Shahnawaz Ahmad said that there is no CT Scan facility available in the hospital. “Due to the non-availability of this facility almost all the trauma cases are being referred. Though USG machine is available but there is no radiologist. A simple MBBS doctor has been assigned the job,” he said.
Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Indrabi admitted that the hospital is short of staff.
“Despite running short of medical and para-medical staff we are trying our best to provide healthcare to the patients. We refer only the trauma cases as we don’t have specialists for such cases here,” he said.
However, Dr Indrabi admitted that hospital has no CT Scan facility and non- availability of radiologist.
