Jammu: An army soldier was on Thursday killed and five others, including a Major, were injured in two blasts triggered by an IED attack along LoC in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“A patrol party of army was targeted by an IED at approximately 0830 hours along LoC Gambhir battalion area,” army spokesperson Col Manish Mehta said here.
In the blast, one soldier lost his life while three others suffered injuries, the spokesman said, adding that the injured have been admitted to the Military Hospital for treatment.
A search operation was in progress in the area till the last reports came in, he said.
The dead soldier has been identified as Sepoy Shanker Singh and injured as Lance Naik Mohinder Singh, Sepoy Shamveer and Sepoy Surinder Prasad.
As per the official reports, the IED has been planted by the suspected militants in a foot track going to a forward Post in Tarkundi forward belt along LoC.
During the switching over the units from old unit of 20 Jat to new unit of 6 Rajput, the IED was exploded through remote control to target troops.
In another IED blast near the LoC in Poonch, two army men including a Major sustained injuries, reports said. The blast took place at around 6: 30 pm Thursday.
The IED blast took place at Turkandi forest near LoC in Balakote sector of Poonch in which two Major Bhatia of 66 Engineer Regiment and Sepoy Khushandar Singh of 7 Sikh Regiment sustained critical injuries.
Both the injured army men were rushed to Army Hospital Rajouri where they are being treated upon, reports said.
Last month, on May 18, an army soldier was killed and two of his colleagues were injured when militants triggered an IED explosion targeting a patrol team along the LoC in Akhnoor area of Jammu district.
