BARAMULLA: The mini-bus drivers and conductors on Monday staged protest in Sopore town of this north Kashmir district.
Reports said that score of drivers and conductors under the banner of Rafiabad Mini Bus Association assembled at Rafiabad, Sopore road and accused the administration of failing to rein in Sumo drivers.
The protesters blocked the road at Seelo bridge from 8 am to 3 pm and did not allow any vehicle to pass by. They alleged that some unregistered Sumo drivers occupy the Watergam bus stand and do not allow minibus drivers to lift or drop the passengers from Watergam to Behrampora.
They said the ARTO and SDM Sopore had assured them that action will be taken against the Sumo drivers but to no avail. “If the administration fails to solve our problem, we will again stage protests and administration should be responsible for the consequences,” Farooq Ahmad, president of the Mini Bus Drivers Association said.
Reports said that ARTO Sopore Mukhtar Ahmad reached the spot and assured the drivers that their problem will be solve soon.
