4 Cops, 2 Civilians injured in Shopian attack

ANANTNAG: Four policemen and two civilians were injured after suspected militants attacked a police party in Bonagam area of southern Shopian district Saturday.
Reports said unidentified militants carried out the attack minutes after the police party reached the spot. “The police vehicle reached the spot at around
3 pm. As soon as the policemen alighted, the militants opened indiscriminate fire on them. The attack left four policemen and two civilians wounded. The injured were rushed to District Hospital Shopian. However, all of them were later referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment. The condition of some of the injured is stated to be critical.
They injured policemen were identified as Vikas Kumar, Mehraj-u-din, SPO Shabir Ahmad and SPO Zahoor Ahmad while as two injured civilians are Mohammad Amin Zargar and Bashir Ahmad Hajam.
The government forces after the attack cordoned off the entire area and launched search operation to nab the attackers.
“Army and SOG men soon after the attack laid siege around the area. However, the militants managed escape.  This is the second attack on the police during the past twenty-four hours. The militants attacked the policemen at Pakherpora in Budgam district leaving a constable injured. The attackers also decamped with some weapons.
The police claimed arrest of several persons in connection with he case.
