14th Finance Commission visit concludes

SRINAGAR: Chairman of the 14th Finance Commission Dr YV Reddy has assured that the demands projected by the state government before the commission would be considered in order to further boost the state’s development.
Reddy appreciated the state government for ensuring holistic development on all fronts in the State.
The Commission on Saturday concluded its three-day tour and left for Delhi.
The commission will be meeting in October this year to finalize its recommendations on funds allocation to the states, when it completes its discussion with all the state governments, Government of India and relevant stake holders.
During its visit in the state, the commission held detailed deliberations with the state government, representatives of Rural, Urban and Local Bodies, Trade and Industries associations, political parties and other stakeholders for fixing the award to the state.
The state government submitted its memorandum and made presentations on the finances of the state government, its projections for the award period and gave its views on some of the terms of reference of the commission.
Reddy appreciated the state government for ensuring holistic development on all fronts in the state. He assured that the demands projected by the State Government before the Commission would be considered to enable it to have quantum jump in the course of growth and development.
The representatives of the Rural and Urban Local Bodies, Trade &industry from all the three regions of the State also put-forth the demands for effective functioning of their respective institutions.
The members of the Commission included Prof Abhijit Sen, Member Planning Commission of India, Sushma Nath, Former Finance Secretary, Dr M Govind Rao, Director National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, besides, Dr Sudipto Mundle, Former Acting Chairman of National Statistical Commission.
