Cop assaulted in Pakherpora

Srinagar: Suspected militants on Friday attacked and critically injured a policeman guarding a shrine in Pakherpora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Reports said three gunmen barged inside a police barrack at the entrance of the shrine at Pakherpora on Friday night and hit a cop with an iron rod, leaving him critically injured. The attackers decamped with three self-loading rifles and a carbine gun.
The condition of the injured cop, who was shifted to SKIMS, Srinagar, is said to be critical. He has been identified as Constable Shabir Ahmad Mir (belt no. 1120/BD) of Chotipora, Shopian.
Police’s Special Operations Group and Army’s 35 Rashtriya Rifles cordoned the entire area and launched searches to nab the assailants. The search operation was in progress when Kashmir Reader went to press.
No outfit has claimed responsibility for the assault.
