Anantnag: Six persons were arrested for allegedly stalking a group of school girls and attacking one of them by slashing her ear in Dooru area of this south Kashmir district even as protests continued for the second consecutive day Friday against the incident .
On Wednesday evening some youth allegedly slashed a school girl’s ear near her Nowgam when she was returning home from a school picnic along with other students. The girl was immediately shifted to District hospital Anantnag where doctors referred her to SKIMS Soura for further treatment. Protests over the incident continued for the second running day on Friday. Hundreds of people of Nowgam, eyewitnesses said, took to roads early morning and marched towards Dooru in the form of a procession. Demanding punishment to the hooligans the protesters staged protests outside police station leading to the messy traffic jam on the road for hours. The protesters also demanded action against the teachers for their failure to take care of the students during picnic. “The hooligans kept on following the school buses all the day to Pahalgam and back in a Maruti Van. Near Akadpark the holigans, according to students, even had heated arguments with teachers. Despite being aware about all this the teachers did not bother to accompany the girl students. They left them at the mercy of driver and conductor. The teachers should be taken to task for their carelessness,” a protester told Kashmir Reader over phone. Later top police official rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters by assuring them speedy investigation into the matter.
“We have arrested six persons and lodged FIR number 25 under sections 294, 323 and 354 against them,” SSP Anantnag, ShiekhJunaid told Kashmir Reader.
He however said that they are investigating into if the girl’s ear has really been chopped off by the eve-teasers.
“The girl has been hurt and we are investigating into it,” SSP said.
Meanwhile Chief Education Officer, Anantnag, has suspended two Laboratory assistants and recommended the suspension of Vice-principal for their carelessness.
“Soon after the parents informed me about the carelessness of the staff I placed two Laboratory assistants under suspension who had left the students at the mercy of a IV class employee. Since the principal of the school had not gone for picnic due to some important official work. The in-charge principal had asked the two Lab. Assistants to accompany the students to the respective destinations. I also recommended the suspension of Vice-principaltill pending inquiry,” CEO, Anantnag, GhulamRasool Shah told Kashmir Reader.
He said that two principals have been appointed as inquiry officers and they have been asked to submit the report within three days.
