SRINAGAR: A team of Food Safety Officers from Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Thursday conducted check of various food establishments destroying stale and rotten food products at various units.
The market checking squad was led by Health Officer SMC, Dr Rubeena Shaheen.
According to a statement issued by the civic body the team carried checks on canteens operational at SMHS Hospital, Government Medical College, Women’s College and canteen of Zonal Office of J&K Bank.
The food establishments located at Karan Nagar, Hari Singh High Street, Lal Chowk and Rajbagh were also inspected. During inspection all the stale and rotten food articles were destroyed on spot.
The food business operators were directed to strictly adhere to the food safety norms under FSSA 2006.
Improvement notices as required under law were also issued to those business operators found violating the norms.
On a specific complaint the team also visited a bakery unit at Zaldagar. The unit was found violating the food safety norms for which Health officer directed the concerned food safety officers to initiate action against the offenders as per law.
